Itinery in detail

 

Day 1: Houei Say - Cruise - Pakbeng - Luang Say lodge


Luang Say lodge

  • Depart a short distance to the border
  • Complete the Custom formalities
  • Cross into Laos and meet your Lao guide
  • Board the wooden boat, cruising towards Pakbeng
  • Meet villagers and minority groups along the way
  • Arrive at Luang Say Lodge and check in
  • Overnight in Pakbeng

 

Day 2: Pakbeng - Cruise - Pak Ou cave - Luang Prabang


Pakou

  • Board the cruise vessel at Pakbeng
  • Begin the cruise on the Mekong River
  • Cruise past through landscapes of exquisite beauty
  • Explore the sacred caves of Pak Ou. The Tham Ting and Tham Phoum caves are highly venerated and revered in Laos, and house many thousands of Buddha statues and other memorabilia, placed there by the people on pilgrimages who come to visit and pray.
  • Overnight in Pakbeng including breakfast and lunch.


Day 3: Luang Prabang

  • Early rise to witness the monks collecting alms
  • Visit some small morning markets, selling strange goods
  • Discover the local cuisine
  • Return to the hotel for breakfast

Then by tuk-tuk we continue our tour of the ancient capital:

  • Discover the beautiful Wat Xieng Thong, the royal Funeral Chariot and the reclining Buddha sanctuary
  • The oldest temple in Luang Prabang, and houses gold statues of Buddha
  • Find the That Makmo stone stupa
  • Vat Ahman, dedicated to ancestors of Laos
  • Explore the National Museum
  • See the richly decorated temple, Wat Mai
  • Stroll through the Darat market
  • Climb Mount Phousi for panoramic views and sunset
  • Enjoy a relaxing massage
  • Visit the nightly H’mong market
  • Enjoy a dance spectacle and welcoming ceremony

Day 4: Luang Prabang - Khuang Sy waterfall - Ethnic minority village

  • Depart for the beautiful Khuang Sy Waterfalls
  • Past traditional houses and lovely nature places
  • Discover the falls, nestled in lush vegetation
  • Relax and swim in the clear, blue pools of water there
  • Visit several villages, including a weaving and Saa paper producing one
  • See the Ock Pop Tok textile gallery
  • Stroll through the H’mong night market
  • Overnight at a hotel in Luang Prabang including breakfast.

 

 Day 5: Luang Prabang - Tomb of Henri Mouhot – Elephant ride - Tad Sae Waterfalls

  • Depart for the tomb of Henry Mouhot a young French explorer
  • Swim in the fresh water on the banks of the Nam Khan River
  • Visit the Tiger Trail Elephant Camp and the adjacent Adventure Camp
  • Take a 1 hour elephant ride through the forest
  • Take a small journey to the Tad Sae waterfalls and can cool off before our return

  • Overnight at a hotel in Luang Prabang including breakfast and a typical Lao lunch.

 

Day 6: Luang Prabang - Xieng Khuang Province - The Plain of Jars

  • Begin with a drive to the province of Xieng Khuang
  • Explore the “Plain of Jars” (site 1)
  • Discover massive sandstone jars weighing as much as 6 tonnes, scattered over a dozen separate sites
  • The origin of these jars is still unknown and further future excavations hope to answer this question
  • Attend villages of ethnic H’mong and Thai Phuan Dam people
  • Overnight at hotel in Phonsavan including breakfast.

 

 

Day 7: Xieng Khoang - Vang Vieng

  • Visit site 2 and 3 of the unexplained Plain of Jars
  • Discover the local market in Phonsavan
  • Continue the journey to Vang Vieng
  • Overnight at hotel in Vang Vieng including breakfast.

 

 

 

 

Day 8: Vang Vieng - Nam Ngum Lake - Vientiane


Nam Ngum Lake

  • Journey to Lake Nam Ngum by road
  • Pass by nature and beautiful scenery along the way
  • Cross the lake
  • Encounter people working at their particular trades
  • After lunch. head for Vientiane
  • Visit the Lao Farmers Society, a production co-operative
  • Continue on to see Lao fair trade networks
  • Receive product presentations, explanations and product tasting
  • Overnight at hotel in Vientiane including breakfast.

 

Day 9: Vientiane - City tour

  • Discover Vat Sisaket, built in 1818
  • Then Phraken Ho, the former royal chapel, the power base of the Kingdom of LaneXang
  • See Patouxay, a large monument built to commemorate the Lao people who died in pre-Revolutionary wars
  • The large golden stupa of That Luang, founded in 1566 and is said to contain a hair of Buddha
  • Explore the temple Wat Si Muang, the most visited temple in Vientiane, considered the seat of the guardian spirit of the city
  • Relax with a steam bath and massage
  • Enjoy free time for personal investigations
  • Enjoy dinner with a folk dance show
  • Overnight at a hotel in Vientiane including breakfast and dinner.

 

Day 10: Vientiane - Departure


  • Free time until transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
